The time has expired

We do not know when or how, but the time will come for all of us: the time when the book of our life will be opened, and in that moment every action, every thought, every omission will be laid bare.

None of us will be able to escape this judgment that hangs over our heads.

The time will have run out for continuing to live this earthly experience, and we will be called to account for all our actions and for our life. Only then will our illusions fall away like a veil—yes, precisely a veil that will mercifully lay everything bare.

We will be incapable of justifications: we will not be able to say that we did not know, that we could not, nor advance any argument in our defense. We will stand naked before God, not for the shame of our physical condition, but as children who have continually rejected all the merciful and loving embraces of God.

We will find ourselves deaf: God will speak to us and we will not understand His voice, because throughout our entire life we did not want to listen to it.

We have continued to fill our ears with the sweet hiss of the world, which, creeping, has wormed its way deep into our soul and our heart.

The world, skillfully and little by little, from our youth has sown thorns and briars in this untilled field, until, having reached adulthood, we no longer had any space left to sow anything good: no plant could take root any longer.

Thus we have denied God in our behaviors, in our philosophies, in the small gestures of every day, destroying that field ever more: diligently we have become sowers of death—yes, of the death of our soul.

We have run as if the end were never to come, and when we least expected it, in an instant someone behind us pulled the plug and the scene of this world went dark.

It will be a tragic condition for all of us, because we will see our life unfold before us and yet be able to do nothing to win back the heart of God: in that moment we will remain suspended in eternity.

There we will know God. We will realize that we have wasted our life on inconsistent loves, on sick feelings; that we have lost the way and wandered our entire life after glittering trinkets, when we could have had the Light and enjoyed His Love.

For this reason, reflecting on all this, it is good to begin changing our conduct, to learn to recognize the true God and to put His teachings into practice.
